Character Creation Challenge 2022: #19 = “Maze & Minotaurs - 1972 Edition"

“Maze & Minotaurs” is a tabletop game born by a Frenchman after reading a “What If” column by Paul Elliot on RPG.Net where Gary Gygax went more Ancient Greek than Dark Age Europe for the first tabletop game. The Frenchman had the following goals for “M&M” -- #1) Write in entire in English, #2) Has an original old school D&D flavor & #3) And be totally a match for Paul’s article.

Step #1 is to roll up the Basic Attributes. The following are the six Basic Attributes for this RPG: Might, Skill, Luck, Wits, Faith & Grace. To that, I need to roll 4 d6, drop the lowest dice and then add the leftovers up to get my number for that ability. The following is my rolls for PC:

  •  Might’s Roll: 4d6 = 5,3,5, & 6. 3 is the lowest here. 5 + 5 = 10 + 6 = 16.

  •  Skill’s Roll: 4d6 = 1,6,2,& 6. 1 is the lowest here. 6+6=12. 12+2=14.

  •  Luck’s Roll: 4d6 = 5,6,3 & 2. 2 is the lowest here. 5+6=11. 11+3=14.

  •  Wit’s Roll: 4d6 = 3,1,4&4. 1 is the lowest here. 4+4=8. 8+3=11.

  •  Faith’s Roll: 4d6 = 6,6, 3 & 2. 2 is the lowest here. 6+6=12. 12 + 3 = 15.

  •  Grace’s Roll: 4d6 = 6,4,3, & 4. 3 is the lostwest here. 6+4=10. 10+4=14.

Step #2 is to get the Attribute Mods for each of the abilities. The following is for my PC:

  •  Might of 16 = +2

  • Skill, Luck & Grace of 14, = +1

  • Wit of 11 = 0

  • Grace of 15 = +1

Step #2 is class. That is to find the highest attribute of the PC and that will be matched with a class. My PC’s highest attribute is Faith -- and that makes my PC’s class a Priest.

Step #3 is the PC. I’m going with Cassandra as the name of the PC.

Step #4 is the gender. Since I’m going with Cassandra -- that means the PC is female.

Step #5 is Cassandra’s Age. That is to find by rolling 2d6 and adding 15 to it. The dice roll gives me the following number: 11. 11+15=26. Cassandra’s starting age is 26.

Step #6 is doing the Combat Modifiers. Step #6A is finding Cassandra’s Melee Attack. The following math problem is for Melee Attack: Might’s Mod + Skill’s Mod. 2+1=3. Step #6B is finding Cassandra’s Missile Attack. The following math is for Missile Attack: Skill’s Mod + Luck’s Mod. 1+1=2. Step #6C is to find Cassandra’s Initiative. The following math is for Initiative: Skill’s Mod + Wit’s Mod. 1+0=1

Step #7 is Defense Class. That is the following math problem: 12+Luck’s Mod. 12+1=13

Step #8 is Hits Points. The math problem for Hits Points is the following: Basic Hit (of the class of the PC)+Might Mod’s. Cassandra’s class is Priest -- so her Basic Hit is 8. 8+2=10.

Step #9 is Danger Evasion. That is the following math problem: Luck Mod + Wits Mod. 1+0=1.

Step #10 is First Reaction. That is the following math problem: Grace’s Mod + Luck Mod. 1+1=2.

Step #11 is Mystic Fortitude. That is the following math problem: Faith’s Mod + Luck’s Mod. 1+1=2.

Step #12 deals with Power Points. That is the following: 9+Faith’s Mod since Cassandra is a Priest. 9+1=10.

Step #13 is to pick a goddess for Cassandra. I’m going with Athena.

Step #14 is to put Cassandra’s starting equipment -- which are the following: staff, dagger & ceremony robes.

Step #14 is to figure out silver pieces for Cassandra’s. That is the following math problem: 3d6x10=11. 11*10=110. So Cassandra has 110 silver pieces.....

...And Cassandra is done. Below this paragraph is Cassandra’s full stats...
