Character Creation Challenge 2023: #12 = “Adament Entertainment's ICONS”

Ok. Our next two games are the same game -- “ICONS: Superpower Roleplaying”. As they are two versions -- the first version was created by Adamant Entertainment while the second one was created by Ad Infinitum Adventures. This one covers the version created by Adamant. The second one will be the version created by Ad Infinitum Adventures.

Step #1 is random roll an Origin using two d6s. The roll of the d6 is the following: 9. That means my PC’s origin is a Gimmick. Here is what the rulebook says about Gimmicks: “The character’s powers all come from devices of some kind. One of the character’s mental abilities (your choice) is increased by +2.”

Step #2 is the Power Level for the six abilities: Prowess, Coordination, Strength, Intellect, Awareness, and Willpower. This is done by a roll of two d6s and comparing it with a table at the top of page 11 in Adamant Entertainment's version of the “ICONS” rulebook -- the following is what I got.

  • Prowess’s Roll: 2d6 = 10. 10 = 6.

  • Coordination’s Roll: 2d6 = 7. 7 = 5.

  • Strength’s Roll: 2d6 = 10. 10 = 6.

  • Intellect’s Roll: 2d6 = 4. 4 = 3.

  • Awareness’s Roll: 2d6 = 7. 7 = 5.

  • Willpower’s Roll: 2d6 = 5. 5 = 4.

Now to do some math -- as if the number is less than 20, I going to have to do a restart from the beginning.

6 + 5 = 11.

11 + 6 = 17.

17 + 3 = 20

20 + 5 = 25

25 + 4 = 29.

29 > 20.

This good.

Step #3 is dealing with that bonus 20 to the metal Attributes. This is where Mythic comes in. Question #1: Intellect of 3 becomes 5? My View: 50/50. Mythic View: 40. Yes. Works for me.

Step #4 is finding how many powers I have. This is done with two d6s as well. 2d6 = 8. 8 = 4 powers.

Step #5 is the find the powers. This comes in three steps -- find the power category using two d6s, find the power type rolling a d6 twice, and then roll the power -- while watching out for powers that have a bullet mark like the following: “•” - which means it’s equal to two powers, and rolling 2d6 for Power Level. The following is what I roll up for my hero:

  • Power #1’s Rolls

    • Category: 2d6  = 4. 4 = Control

    • Power: 6 & 4. 6 & 4 = Transmutation. This is equal to two powers. So now I’m done to 2 powers.

    • Power Level = 6. 6 = 4

  • Power #2’s Rolls:

    • Category: 2d6. 2d6 = 8. 8 = Movements.

    • Power:  5 & 1. 5 & 1 = Borrowing

    • Power Level:  5. 5 = 4

  • Power #3’s

    • Category: 2d6  = 9. 9 = Offensive.

    • Power: 4 & 5. 4 & 5 = Life Drain.

    • Power Level: 7. 7 = 5

Step #6 is the number of Specialties for my PC. This is done with a 2d6. The dice roll of the 2d6 is the following: 2. 2 means I only get one Specialty from the Specialty chapter. I going to take the following: Leadership.

Step #7 is Stamina. That is Strength plus Willpower. 6 + 4 = 10. Go my PC gets a Stamina of 10.

Step #8 is Background -- which I’m going with the following:  “Antenna was originally a normal worker ant that lived in Magic Park, the main park, in Wizard, Kansas. One day, while out leading her following works to a picnic -- she was grabbed by Prof. Steven Stonewall, a scientist who wanted to turn insects into humans. Meanwhile, another scientist. Prof. Donna Dread, -- a crooked one was working Diamondite to weak Diamond in case that female fraud with superpower turns good. Diamond heard the rumors through the underground’s graveyard -- and send the troll to wreck the lab -- which he did  -- but before Antenna was turned into a tall woman with red hair and red eyes wearing a red blouse, blue jeans, a pair of red socks, and pair of black combat boots.

Prof. Steven Stonewall gives the human Antenna a red catsuit that covers all but her head. When she isn’t wearing the catsuit to fight crime as Antenna, she goes by the name of Annabelle Anderson and is the keeper of insects at the city’s zoo.”

Step #9 is Appearance -- which I going with the following: “As Antenna is a tall adult human with red hair and red eyes usually dressed in a red catsuit that covers all but her hair. As Annabelle Anderson, she wears the following: a red blouse, blue jeans, a pair of red socks, and pair of black combat boots.”

Step #10 is Determination Points. That is 6 miss the number of powers plus any Attributes over 6. None of my Antenna’s Attributes is over 6 and she has three powers. So she has 3 Determination Points.

Step #11 is Qualities -- which I’m going with the following: “Queen of the Insect World”

Step #12 is Changelles -- which I’m going with the following: “Sercet Identity: Annabelle Anderson” & “Newcomer to humankind.”

Step #13 is dealing with the fictional Game Master. He points out that my story for Antenna fits more of a Transformed hero -- and allows me to take that and its bonus for my hero. The bonus for Transformed is the following: one of the Antenna’s powers -- attributes or powers can get a 2 to it -- but only one. I decide to add that willpower -- turning that 4 into a 6.

Now, Game Master dealt with -- below this paragraph is the full stats of Antenna.
